Rumour: Samsung to offer dual and quad-core Galaxy S III models

SamsungOne of the biggest question ahead of next week’s Samsung Unpacked event is whether or not the Samsung Galaxy S III (or whatever it will be called) will come with a dual-core or a quad-core processor. Recent benchmarks suggested a dual-core processor but Samsung’s Exynos 4 Quad announcement came with confirmation that it would be in Samsung’s next Galaxy device. The Korea Times may have the answer.

An anonymous Samsung executive told the publication that a number of variants will be released to accommodate different markets. Europeans will get a quad-core Exynos/HSPA+ device, the Korean market will have a quad-core Exynos/LTE device, and North America will see a dual-core Qualcomm S4/LTE model.

As for why Korea will get a quad-core Exynos processor supporting LTE and North America will not, you can blame the different LTE frequencies used.

With all three major Canadian carriers now offering LTE, it would appear that we will miss out on Samsung’s new quad-core Exynos 4 Quad process.
