Android 4.2 firmware update coming to Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra

Sony Xperia Z UltraThe Sony Xperia Z1 and Ultra Z are barely out in Canada and the U.S. that Sony Mobile also announced it is pushing out a maintenance release for both devices. The update incorporates changes that Sony realized were necessary after the devices launched earlier in other markets.

After these products started hitting markets, (as always) we listened closely to feedback and looked at how we could refine the build quality. As you know, we’re keen to ensure that all our software is as good as it can possibly be, so we’ve addressed & improved on a few things…

Below is the changelog for both devices:

  • Xperia Z1
    • Tweaked the camera algorithm for even better all round performance
    • Refined Sony’s Smart Social Camera platform, so Xperia Camera apps run more smoothly (particularly Burst Mode, Superior Auto, AR Effect and Sweep Panorama…)
  • Xperia Z Ultra
    • optimized touchscreen sensitivity, for both finger gestures and writing / sketching with pencils, metal pens and selected styluses
  • For both devices
    • re-calibrated the display ever so slightly, to ensure viewing experiences remain bright & bold
    • economised power consumption for longer battery life
    • streamlined Exchange connection for faster email sync, display and download

As for when these updates will hit devices, Sony warns that exact timing and availability will vary by market and carrier. Unlocked devices should be receiving the update fairly quickly as it will not require carrier approval.
