After teasing us about an upcoming announcement, Rovio today announced Angry Birds Star Wars II. Coming September 19th to app stores worldwide, the new game will focus on the prequels and introduce “a wide roster of never-before-seen Angry Birds Star Wars characters.”
Aside from the new stories, new levels, the ability to play for either side (“Join the Pork Side”) and new powers, the biggest addition may be the game’s new TELEPODS. These are some 30 collectable figures that players will be able to place directly on their phone and tablet to bring the character into the game, allowing players to select new ones on the fly. If you’ve played Skylanders, you’ll already be familiar with the concept.
Needless to say, Rovio will also offer new toys, plush, books, apparel and more with the game on September 19th. The TELEPODS are also expected to hit stores in September.
Rovio also announced that Return of the Jedi is coming to the original Angry Birds Star Wars!
As for the question we are all asking ourselves, Rovio would only say: “At this point we will not comment on rumors or speculation that Jar Jar Binks will be in the game.”
