Apple names ‘Best of 2013’ apps and games

Continuing a yearly tradition, Apple today named its ‘Best of 2013’ apps and games. There is one list for the iPhone and one for the iPad. Without further ado, here are the winners and runner-ups:

  • Apps:
    • iPhone App of the Year: Duolingo – Learn Languages for Free (free)
    • iPhone App runner-ups: VSCO Cam (free), Endless Alphabet (CA$5.99)
    • iPad App of the Year: Disney Animated (CA$9.99)
    • iPad App runner-ups: Traktor DJ (CA$19.99), WWF Together (free)
  • Games:
    • iPhone Game of the Year: Ridiculous Fishing – A Tale of Redemption (CA$2.99)
    • iPhone Game runner-ups: Device 6 (CA$3.99), Plants vs Zombies 2 (free)
    • iPad Game of the Year: Badland (CA$3.99)
    • iPad Game runner-ups: XCOM: Enemy Unknown (CA$19.99), Impossible Road (CA$1.99)

The top Paid App was Minecraft – Pocket Edition (CA$6.99) while the top Free App was Candy Crush Saga.

Apple also named its Best of 2013 across the other product categories it offers.

Gravity was named the best movie of the year. Breaking Bad was named the Best Series Finale while Scandal won Best Breakthrough, Game of Thrones Best Fantasy and Archer Best Animated Comedy.

Over in Books, A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki won Best Fiction while I am Malala by Malala Yousafzai and Christina Lam won for Best Non-Fiction.

Finally, in music, The National took Album of the Year with Trouble Will Find Me while Lorde was named Breakthrough Artist for Pure Heroine.
