Chromecast now available in Canada through Amazon

Google Chromecast

Google launched its Chromecast HDMI Streaming Media Player (see our review) in the U.S. this summer. With a free Netflix 3 month offer and costing only US$35, it sold rather well. Google promised to bring it to other countries as well but it has yet to officially do so. Canadians who simply cannot wait though can now get their hands on it but will need to order through Amazon’s U.S. site rather than Google Play.

Chromecast is the easy way to enjoy online video and anything from the web on your TV. Plug it into any HDTV and control it with your existing smartphone, tablet, or laptop. Send your favorites from Netflix, YouTube, Hulu Plus, Google Play Movies & TV, Google Play Music, and Chrome to your TV with the press of a button. No more huddling around small screens and tiny speakers. Chromecast automatically updates to work with a growing number of apps.

Amazon is offering Chromecast for US$35 but the price will end up closer to US$50 when shipping and import fees are added on.

The Chromecast app is not yet available in Canada’s Google Play store but it should not be too hard to find the APK and sideload it if you decide to get one. Finding content may not be as easy as most of it is still geared to the U.S.

We’ll let you know as soon as Chromecast goes on sale through Google Play and/or Canadian retailers.
