HP announces Slate 7 Extreme based on NVIDIA Tegra Note reference tablet

HP Slate 7 ExtremeThe day after NVIDIA announced its new US$199 NVIDIA Tegra Note tablet, Hewlett-Packard unveiled the HP Slate 7 Extreme, a 7-inch tablet based on NVIDIA’s reference design.

Specifications are the same as those of the reference tablet except that there will also be a 32GB variant:

  • Processor: NVIDIA Tegra 4
  • Operating system: Google Android
  • Display: 7-inch WXGA (1280×800) IPS LCD
  • Input: Touchscreen and NVIDIA DirectStylus technology
  • Internal storage: 16GB or 32GB
  • External storage: microSD cards up to 32GB
  • Rear-facing camera: 5MP
  • Front-facing camera: VGA
  • Connectors: HDMI-out
  • Other: Front-facing stereo speakers with bass-reflex port

The HP Slate 7 Extreme also comes with HP’s active palm rejection technology. When the stylus is in use, the screen detection is overridden so that the tablet will ignore your hand should it come in contact with the display.

The HP Slate 7 Extreme will be available in the U.S. starting in November. Pricing was not announced but expect it to start around the US$199 mark for the 16GB version. No mention was made about availability in Canada.
