Hugo is Day 5’s free gift on Apple’s 12 Days of Gifts

Apple 12 Days of Gifts 2013We’re already into Day 5 in Apple’s 12 Days of Gifts promotion. After a few less than impressive offerings, today’s gift is the movie Hugo. Unfortunately not every country is getting it. While available in both Canada and the U.S., other countries are getting Home Alone instead.

Set in Paris in the 1930s, Hugo follows the story of an orphan living in the walls of a train station. His path soon crosses that of George Méliès, one of the forefathers of cinema. Creator of many special effects, he was among the first to make science-fiction films,  including the Jules Verne-inspired A Trip to the Moon in 1902 and The Impossible Voyage in 1904. As much as it is is a story about an orphan trying to solve the mystery of his father’s legacy, it is also an ode to early cinema by director Martin Scorcese.

Hugo is a available as a free download from Apple iTunes only for 24 hours so don’t delay if you want to get your hands on it.
