LG Optimus G2 set for Fall 2013 launch?

The LG Optimus G2 did not materialize at CES 2013 as some rumours expected. While the next logical point at which it could be unveiled is MWC 2013 in late February, the latest from Korean news agency Yonhap suggests instead that it will be launched in the fall. For MWC, LG will instead unveil a different device designed to grab some market share ahead of Samsung’s expected Galaxy S IV announcement.

The device to be announced at MWC is codenamed GK. It is expected to come with both a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920×1080) display and a quad-core processor. It appears that this device has been confused with the Optimus G2 as rumours have been floating around about both devices.

It appears that LG may be waiting for the next version of Android for the Optimus G2. Google is expected to announce Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie (version number and designation both to be confirmed) at Google I/O 2013 in mid-May. LG would then launch its latest smartphone flagship as one of the first to sport the new Android operating system.

HTC may also unveil a new flagship, the rumoured HTC M7, at MWC, in a bid to get to market before the Samsung Galaxy S IV.
