New Google Maps update available in Google Play

Google Maps

The new Google Maps app announced back in May at Google I/O is finally available in the Google Play Store. Well, sort of. Some will get it right away and for the rest, it will roll out over the coming weeks depending on where you are in the world.

We can look forward to a completely new user interface (UI) for both phones and tablets. Google claimed they started on a new UI from the beginning and changed everything… They actually made the map itself the UI. For exampl, we can now get real-time traffic updates allowing for instant rerouting if there is an accident.

What’s in this version:

  • New design for Android phones and tablets
  • Enhanced navigation including live traffic updates, incident reports and dynamic rerouting
  • Explore: A new way to browse and discover popular local places to eat, drink, shop, play and sleep

As we said, the update is gradually rolling out to Android 4.0.3+ users over the next few weeks. For those with older Android versions, visit to find out more about the Google Maps app available to you.

Let us know if you have received the newest version of Google Maps. How do you like it compared to the old version.
