Next-generation Google Nexus 10 to come from ASUS?

First came the rumour that Motorola rather than LG would manufacture the next Google smartphone. Now comes word via Geek.com that Google may drop Samsung and go with ASUS for the next-generation Google Nexus 10 tablet. The report is backed by an inventory system screenshot that clearly identifies the manufacturer as ASUS.

Rumoured Google Nexus 10 by ASUS screenshot

What makes this rumour even more interesting is that it is a contradiction to an earlier report. Following the Google Nexus 7 (2013) announcement, The Wall Street Journal‘s Amir Efrati asked Sundar Pichai about the Nexus 10. The head of the Chrome and Android teams replied that a new model was coming “in the “near future” and would again come from Samsung.

So, what’s going on here? It is entirely possible that Google has decided to go with ASUS for its larger Nexus tablet. Pichai may have been misquoted as well. Then again, this latest information could also simply be incorrect. Other details on the screenshot are simply place holders. It is certainly plausible that the manufacturer data is also no more than a placeholder.

The report adds that the new Nexus 10 will launch on the Google Play store as well as the Best Buy retail chain in time for the holiday season.

We’ll have to see what future details can provide to clear this up.
