Samsung acknowledges Galaxy Gear “lacks something special”

According to Samsung’s Lee Young-hee, a marketing executive in its mobile division, the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch is “definitely receiving warm response.” He added that “The Galaxy Gear is a wow product. It’s a wholly new and must-have accessory.”

But it appears that not everyone at Samsung agrees. An unnamed executive told The Korea Times that “our Gear lacks something special.” They also added that future devices will be improved with further investment into the user interface and user experience.

It’s not the first time that rumours have surfaced of Samsung already working on a successor to the Galaxy Gear. It could launch as early as CES 2014 in January or MWC 2014 in February with improved battery life, GPS functionality and support for more devices.

Not surprisingly, Lee denied that Samsung was already working on such a device.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear will make its Canadian debut on October 4 along with the Galaxy Note 3 and additional devices and accessories.

The report is also the latest to indicate that Samsung will launch a smartphone with a curved and flexible display next month. Could it be a limited edition Galaxy Note 3 as past rumours hinted. Only one thing is sure for now; it will initially launch in Korea but could be headed to other markets later.
