Samsung Exynos 5420 takes on Google Nexus 10’s Exynos 5210

Samsung Exynos 5420 compared to 5210To demonstrate the power of its new Exynos 5 Octa 5420 processor, Samsung set up a demonstration at SIGGRAPH 2013 pitting a reference tablet with the new processor against the Google Nexus 10 which comes with a 1.7GHz dual-core Exynos 5 Dual 5250 processor. While the Nexus 10 may not feature the most powerful processor, its Mali-T604 GPU is currently among the best. See below how it fares against the Exynos 5420’s six-core Mali-T628 GPU:

The comparison was done using GLBenchmark’s 2.7.0 T-Rex on-screen test with both tablets running at a WQXGA (2560×1600). Not only is the reference tablet’s performance far smoother, its final score was also nearly twice as high. It could be even more impressive when it is optimized for production devices.

It would be interesting to see similar comparisons with the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5410 and the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 as well.

Samsung is expected to start mass production of the Exynos 5420 in August. There is no word on when we will see it in devices but we may have to wait until early 2014. Perhaps we will see it in the next iteration of the Nexus 10 tablet which is coming in the “near future.”
