Samsung SM-Z9005 to be first Tizen smartphone?

Rumoured Tizen 3.0 user interface

While it remains unclear when Samsung’s Tizen-powered smartphones will launch, details about them continue to slowly emerge. It now appears that we could have a model number for one of these: SM-Z9005. In fact, it’s not the first time it showed up on India’s Zauba shipment tracking database. This time though, it reveals a few new details.

Samsung SM-Z9005 shipment notice

The September 10th notice confirms that the 35 devices in this shipment (there have been others before and after) are for testing and evaluation only, suggesting that Samsung may be nearing its development of the smartphone. This entry is the first to reveal that the device will come with a 4.8-inch display.

Past rumours have suggested it will also come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and an HD (720×1280) display. It could also pick up other characteristics from the Android-powered Galaxy S III upon which it is reportedly based. Recent pictures of Tizen running on both a Samsung Galaxy S III and Galaxy S4 give this some credence.

There have also been rumours of a second Tizen-powered smartphone powered by an Exynos processor. No other SM-Zxxxx device listings can be found on Zauba, perhaps suggesting that Samsung has opted to go with a single model for now.

Samsung will hold a number of Tizen-focused sessions at its Samsung Developers Conference in October. Despite recent rumours of a 2014 launch, it may well unveil the SM-Z9005 at the event in support of these sessions.
