Sony Honami to launch as Xperia Z1?

Rumoured Sony Xperia i1 HonamiSony is expected to unveil its latest flagship smartphone at an event on September 4th. Known so far by its codename, Honami, rumours to date have suggested that it would launch as the Xperia i1. But an XDA developer now suggests that it will launch under a different name. It may instead be called the Xperia Z1 when it hits the market.

Should the rumour turn out to be accurate, it may suggest that Sony decided to continue to leverage the branding awareness it has built up with the Xperia Z, Xperia Z Ultra and other recent devices. It could also mean that the rumoured Honami Mini could launch as the Xperia Z1 Mini.

There are no additional details to go with the possible name change. Past rumours have suggested that the Sony Honami will come with a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, LTE connectivity, a 5-inch FHD (1080×1920) Triluminos display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage and a 20.7MP camera with Exmor RS sensor and Sony G-lens. It should also be dustproof and waterproof like the Xperia Z and Xperia Z Ultra.
