BBM stickers arrive today for your BBM chats

BlackBerry BBM stickers

BlackBerry announced back in February that BBM would soon be bringing BBM stickers to chats. That day has arrived and BBM app updates are now landing in various app stores to support the new feature. The stickers promise “larger, bolder and more expressive images than emoticons.”

“Stickers are another great example of how we’re making the BBM experience more engaging and fun for our customers,” said David Proulx, Senior Director, BBM at BlackBerry. “Stickers let you personalize your chats and strike the right chord with people around the world who rely on stickers in chats when they connect with colleagues, family, friends, peers and partners.”

BBM stickers will be available for sale through the BBM Shop inside BBM itself. They will be sold in packs of between 20 and 25 stickers with a common theme. For example, packs could be related to a theme or a character like CosCat, Gilbert’s Tales, Bubble Bot or other brands. Sticker packs will initially be offered for free for for US$1.99 and will be billed through the device’s app store.

BlackBerry will regularly add new sticker packs to the BBM Shop.

This latest BBM update, bringing it up to version 2.1, also brings with it:

  • The ability to share photos in multi-person chats
  • Support for larger shared files increasing from 6MB to 16MB, enough for about 16 seconds of video as recorded on a BlackBerry Z30

BBM 2.1 will be available today through Google Play for Android, BlackBerry World for BlackBerry, and iTunes for iOS devices.
