The acquisitions have kicked off for 2014. Switzerland-based Bitspin today announced that it has been acquired by Google. Bitspin is the company behind Timely, the popular alarm clock for Android.
We’re thrilled to announce that Bitspin is joining Google, where we’ll continue to do what we love: building great products that are delightful to use.
For new and existing users, Timely will continue to work as it always has. Thanks to everyone who has downloaded our app and provided feedback along the way; we truly appreciate all your support.

Terms of the acquisition have not been revealed. But Bitspin quickly reassured users that Timely is not going anywhere. It will continue to be available through Google Play. The only difference is that all in-app purchase options such as additional themes and alarm sounds are now available for free.
As for what happens to the Bitspin team now, they only promise that they will continue to build “great products that are delightful to use.” Could Timely replace the AOSP clock? Its ability to sync alarms across devices would certainly be a nice feature to add to the stock version of Android.
