Google Maps for mobile update adds lane guidance and improved offline support

Lane guidance in Google MapsGoogle Maps for mobile got a significant update today with the introduction of a number of new features.

Perhaps the most exciting new feature is the new new lane guideance. Google Maps will now show you and tell you which lane to stay in or move to. It launches with availability in Canada (limited to highways), Japan (non-highway roads) and the United States (highways and local roads in major metropolitan areas).

The offline mode has been enhanced as well. Maps can now be given custom names. These saved maps will also be synchronized across devices for easy access later.

Google has also added new filters to make it easier to find relevant information. These include opening hours, rating, price and more, making it easier to find exactly what it is you’re looking for.
