HTC One M8 Google Play Edition coming soon

HTC One (M8)

Much as HTC did last year when it launched a Google Play edition of the HTC One, it will do so again this year with the HTC One M8 it unveiled today. The announcement confirms earlier rumours that suggested such a move was coming.

Like other Google Play edition devices, the The One M8 Google Play Edition will come with a stock version of Android, in this case the current 4.4.2 release. It will not include HTC Sense 6.0 (Sixth Sense) or other HTC apps. Those looking to add specific HTC apps will be able to do so through Google Play if they choose to do so though. For example, HTC Zoe and HTC SenseTV are both available through the app store. An advantage of the stock version of Android is that operating system updates are pushed out faster to Google Play edition devices than they are to the manufacturer versions.

The HTC One M8 Google Play Edition will be offered through Google Play in the U.S. It will sell for US$699.

If you’re picking up an HTC One M8, will you pick up one through your carrier of choice or will you wait for the Google Play edition model instead? Let us know below.
