Is this the HTC One (M8) for Windows?

Rumoured HTC One (M8) for WindowsHTC is holding a press event tomorrow in New York City. While the company has revealed little about what it plans to announce, rumours suggest that the HTC One (M8) for Windows will be the star of the show. As we can guess from the name (which is not official), the new handset will be very similar to the HTC One (M8) flagship but will be powered by Windows Phone. Two images, one of the front and of the back, have now surfaced effectively confirming that HTC will indeed unveil its first Windows Phone device in many years.

No specifications are provided with the images but the front image lines up very well with another image that leaked earlier this month. The back image shows off the same brushed metal finish as on the HTC One (M8) and, for the first time, we see the HTC Duo Camera on the back.

As for the specifications, here is what we can expect:

  • Processor: 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801
  • Operating system: Microsoft Windows Phone 8.1
  • Display: 5-inch Full HD (1080×1920 / 441PPI) Super LCD3 with Corning Gorilla Glass 3
  • RAM: 2GB
  • Internal storage: 32GB
  • Rear-facing camera: HTC Duo with U-Focus
  • Front-facing camera: 5MP
  • Battery: 2,600mAh
  • Other: HTC BoomSound, HTC Dot View case support

The images also confirm that Verizon Wireless will be among if not the first U.S. carrier to offer the HTC One (M8) for Windows when it launches. There is no word yet on availability in Canada.
