Samsung Gear S to launch in Canada on November 14

Samsung Gear SThe Samsung Gear S smartwatch was unveiled just days before IFA 2014. Unlike most smartwatches currently on the market, the Gear S comes with integrated 3G connectivity, thereby eliminating the need to connect to a smartphone to make and receive calls or receive updates. Samsung Canada today announced that it will make its Canadian debut on November 14 through Samsung Brand Stores and will roll out to “major Canadian carriers” later in the month.

“The Samsung Gear S defines the next level of wearables,” said Paul Brannen, Executive Vice President, Mobile Solutions, Samsung Canada. “Whether making calls, receiving calls, or keeping in touch and updated, the Gear S delivers the freedom and connectivity our consumers want – right on their wrists.”

The Samsung Gear S can also be paired to a smartphone, giving you the usual smartwatch functionality. It also comes with Samsung’s Power Saving Mode, which will change the display to black and white and limit non-essential functions to give you as much battery life as possible. It is also one of the first smartwatches to come with built-in GPS.

The Samsung Gear S will sell for CA$399.99. It remains to be seen what Canadian carriers will offer it and what kind of plans they will offer in support.
