Samsung introduces Samsung Galaxy Tab S with Super AMOLED display

As expected, Samsung tonight unveiled its latest line of tablets, the Galaxy Tab S. The event’s tagline “Tab into color” was a pretty big hint that a key feature of the new tablets would be their displays and Samsung did not disappoint with the announcement that both the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and Galaxy Tab S 10.5 would come with WQXGA Super AMOLED displays.

The new displays promise to deliver more than 90% of Adobe RGB color coverage fo rmore accurate colour reprouctions and a 100,000:1 contrast ratio that makes blacks darker and whites brighter. A technology called Adaptive Display can also adjust gamma, saturation, and sharpness based on factors such as the application being used, the color temperature of the viewing environment and ambient lighting. Preset modes also allow users to switch to Cinema and Photo settings as needed.

“The tablet is becoming a popular personal viewing device for enjoying content, which makes the quality of the display a critical feature,” said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics. “With the launch of the Galaxy Tab S, Samsung is setting the industry bar higher for the entire mobile industry. It will provide consumers with a visual and entertainment experience that brings colors to life, beautifully packaged in a sleek and ultra-portable mobile device.”

This time, it has partnered with 30 companies, including Marvel, Conde Nast Magazines, Pocket, The Wall Street Journal and others.

Samsung will also offer two cover accessories and a Bluetooth keyboard to go along with its new tablets.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S will launch in select markets in July 2014. In the U.S., the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 will sell for US$399 and the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 for US$499. There is no word yet on availability in Canada.
