Higher than expected demand pushes Sony Xperia Z2 launch into May

Sony Xperia Z2

When Sony Mobile unveiled the Xperia Z2 smartphone at Mobile World Congress in late February, it indicated that a global rollout would begin in March. While North American launch details have yet to be revealed, Sony’s latest flagship smartphone had been expected to launch in Europe and the UK in mid-April. Sony has now delayed the Xperia Z2 launch to May due to “high demand across all our sales channels.”

Those who pre-ordered the smartphone should still get it in April as Sony is allocating stock to those orders first. According to a Sony spokesperson:

“Xperia Z2 will be available in the UK during April and we are expecting to deliver to all consumers who have placed a pre-order through our key partners. We are working tirelessly to maximise stock levels in April but currently we do not expect to meet the high demand across all our sales channels.”

UK retailer Unlocked Mobiles added that Sony attributed the delay to a component supply issue. According to a spokesperson, “Sony advises they had a component manufacturing issue from a third party who make a part for the phone.”

Sony unveiled the Xperia Z2 at Mobile World Congress along with the mid-range Xperia M2 smartphone and the Xperia Z2 Tablet.

As for North America, we are still wating for Sony Mobile to announce Xperia Z2 launch details.
