Starbucks unveils “Tweet-a-Coffee” Twitter gifting program in Canada

Starbucks Tweet-a-Coffee

Treating a friend to a coffee in Canada even if they’re on the opposite side of the country just became a whole lot easier today. Starbucks and Twitter today unveiled “Tweet-a-Coffee” billed as the first Twitter gifting program of its kind in Canada. It allows you to “share the gift of Starbucks in 140 characters or less.”

“Starbucks is a gathering place that creates moments of connection between people every day. Tweet-a-coffee is a brand new way for our customers to connect with friends and followers and share the gift of Starbucks instantly,” says Richard Burjaw , vice-president Starbucks Coffee Canada. “Whether it’s to say #thank you, #congratulations or simply #justbecause we’re thrilled to enable the ability for customers to spread some kindness.”

Essentially, anyone with a registered Starbucks account connected to their Twitter account can now tweet a CA$5.00 Starbucks Card eGift to friends and followers. When a tweet is sent to @tweetacoffee and to the recipient’s Twitter handle, they will receive a link on Twitter to redeem a CA$5 eGift. It can be redeemed simply by printing it out, showing it directly on their mobile device or by loading into their own Starbucks mobile app.

The program is only available at participating Starbucks stores in Canada for now. Let’s hope that it soon expands so that eGifts can be sent to other friends and followers in other countries.

Anyone else have the feeling that they will be hitting the coffee shop even more frequently now?
