We recently featured the Qwerkywriter, a mechanical keyboard for your tablet that was inspired by the typewriters of yore, on Concept Sunday. While almost any lover of old typewriter probably wants one on their desks, it is not an accessory that lends itself to being carried everywhere. Now, those same lovers of old typewriters have another option. t y p e w r i t e r by Linguistic Design is an iOS keyboard app “for those who are still in love with the typewriter…”
Described as “a practical abstraction of the classic aesthetic,” it proposes a minimal interface to eliminate distractions and let you focus on writing. “Just like a typewriter, there’s only one thing to do: type.” It also supports gestures as an “elegant” alternative to buttons and menus. Among the supported gestures are swiping to navigate, pinching to zoom, shaking to change the typeface and more.
The t y p e w r i t e r app is available for the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. It sells for US$4.99 through the Apple App Store.
Linguistic Design also offers w r i t e r, a very similar keyboard app, but using modern typography.
