Apple to ship 26 million Apple Watches in 2015?

Yellow gold Apple Watch EditionWe just told you that Android Wear shipments topped the 720,000 unit mark in 2014. While not stellar, such numbers are not bad and may well improve nicely over the next year as more devices become available and Google improves the platform. It’s unlikely though that we’ll know whether these numbers met the expectations that Google and its partners had for its new platform. But it’s almost certain that they are nervously waiting to see how the Apple Watch will fare. Early J.P. Morgan predictions suggest that 2015 will not be Android Wear’s year but Apple’s.

J.P. Morgan analyst Rod Hall predicted today in a research note issued to investors that Apple will sell more than 26 million Apple Watches in 2015. Compatible only with the iPhone 5 and more recent Apple smartphones, Hall still predicts that there will be some 400 million potential Apple Watch customers out there. Even if only 5% pick one up by the end of the year, that will translate to 20 million sales!

J.P. Morgan Apple Watch sales projections

Hall expects that 2016 will be an even better year for the Apple Watch. He predicts that adoption rates could more than double. According to his crystal ball, sales could cross the 55 million unit mark.

These rosy predictions have led J.P. Morgan to raise their target for Apple’s shares to US$145 by December 2015. Apple shares today closed at almost US$125.
