Apple stores to use safes for gold Apple Watch Edition models

Yellow gold Apple Watch Edition

Information continues to emerge about the Apple Watch ahead of its April shipping date. To be available in three collections, Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch Edition, we are now getting a better sense of how exclusive and expensive the Apple Watch Edition will be. According to 9to5Mac, Apple will outfit its Apple Stores with safes to store the 18-karat rose or yellow gold models.

The safes Apple has begun to install in its stores are not your run-of-the-mill safes either. They will be outfitted with MagSafe chargers to ensure that the watches are charged up over night to be ready for the next day. They will hold both to-be-sold inventory and store demonstration units.

Sources also suggest that Apple will re-organize its store layouts to accommodate new Apple Watch display tables. It is also looking at having areas where customers can try on watches and play with different configurations.

Exactly how much the gold Apple Watch Edition will sell for is still not known but the precautions that Apple is taking suggest that it will not be an inexpensive proposition. All we know is that the cheapest Apple Watch will start at US$349 (about CA$445).

The Apple Watch will begin shipping in April. We should know by then exactly how much the various models, including the gold Apple Watch Edition, will cost.
