CES 2015: TCL Communication confirms Palm brand return

Palm Smart Move logo and sloganAny doubt that Palm would be making a comeback was put to rest this week when TCL (TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited), better known as ALCATEL ONETOUCH, confirmed that it will indeed create “a new Palm Inc.” The new company will take ownership of the Palm brand and operate in Silicon Valley.

Palm has always carried a lot of affect and emotions. That’s why TCL has set the direction to rebuild the brand involving Palm’s very own community, making it the largest scale crowd-sourced project ever seen in the industry.

The objective goes far beyond proposing a more advanced device. It is to deliver absolute breakthrough innovations in Technology, Design, User Experience, Eco-system, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Business Models.

Unfortunately, TCL revealed little about this new Palm “more advanced device.” It only promised to provide further details about its Palm project “at a later date.”

TCL will support Palm with a number of different assets, includings its 5,000 R&D engineers, “the most modern and efficient mobile devices manufacturing facility” and a global network that spans 170 countries.

Will the new Palm be able to recapture the excitement of devices such as the Palm Pre? It remains to be seen but it’s good to see the Palm brand rise again. Here’s hoping that TCL can finally succeed where the original Palm and Hewlett-Packard failed.
