Jawbone UP3 to begin shipping on April 20th

Jawbone UP3There was good and bad news from Jawbone today fro those looking forward to getting their hands on its latest multi-sensor tracker, the Jawbone UP3. First announced late last year, it was to have begun shipping by now but production challenges forced the delay.

First the good news. Jawbone announced this week that the UP3 will begin shipping in the U.S. on April 20th with international shipments to follow later in the year.

Jawbone decided to push out the shipping date when it discovered that UP3 devices coming off the manufacturing line were not consistently meeting the water specifications it had set forth. Despite “extensive and exhaustive testing,” the company has not been able to resolve the issue and the UP3 will not be guaranteed for 10 meters of water resistance.

UP3 will now ship with a water resistance comparable to, and in line with, most other multi-sensor trackers. This means that UP3 is resistant to everyday splashing, including while washing hands or in the shower, but it is unsuitable for swimming or submerged use. We would like to apologize to customers who may have pre-ordered UP3 on the basis that it would be suitable for swimming.

Customers who pre-ordered the Jawbone UP3 will be able to do so without incurring any charges.

Its sleep tracker can distinguish between different sleep stages including REM, light and deep sleep and provide analysis to improve your rest. Paired to a smartphone, the UP App provides a dashboard for all metrics collected as well as Smart Coach, a system that can provide personalized guidance to help you reach your goals faster.
