LG G4 to feature 3K display?

UAProf file for LG-VS9992K or WQHD (2560×1440) displays were almost de rigueur for flagship smartphones in 2014. With even more devices expected to come with WQHD displays this year, what are manufacturers to do to distinguish their new flagship devices from those of the competition? LG appears to have chosen the route of going with a even higher resolution display.

According to MyLGPhones, the UAProfile (user agent profile) file for an upcoming device identified as the LG-VS999 reveals that it will come with an eye-popping resolution of 1620 by 2880 pixels. The UAProf does not provide the actual display size making it impossible to determine the display’s pixel density. But even with a 5.7-inch display, the LG-VS999 wll have one if not the highest pixel densities ever seen on a smartphone.

Given that the Verizon Wireless version of the LG G3 sports model numbe LG-VS985, it is certainly plausible that the LG-VS999 could be none other than the LG G4.

Given that it is relatively easy to manipulate a UAProfile, a healthy pinch of salt needs to accompany this rumour. The fact that a similar rumour popped up at forum.hardware.fr does give it a bit more credence though.

The LG G4 is expected to launch sometime in Q2. There should be plenty of time between now and then to see if other rumours support this one or if it will come with a ‘mere’ WQHD display instead.
