Motorola briefly teases new Moto 360 smartwatch

Moto 360 (2015)It appears that Motorola briefly (and likely accidentally) gave us a glimpse at the Moto 360 successor earlier today. A tweet by the company today at first glance appears to be about the Moto 360 but a closer look reveals that it is not the current model and is likely instead its successor.

As previous leaks have hinted, the new Moto 360 appears to be very similar to the current model. Much as we saw in a picture we saw back in March, the new Moto 360 is different from the current model in two ways. It sports exposed lugs to which the strap attaches and the crown is set close to the two o’clock position.

Rumoured 2nd generation Moto 360

Past rumours have suggested that the new Moto 360 will come with upgraded hardware including a completely round display running at a higher 360 by 360 pixel resolution.

Assuming it is legitimate and is the final version of the new Moto 360, it appears that Motorola will unfortunately again use a display with a black bar at the bottom of the display (also known as the “flat tire”).

A launch may not be very far away. Not only is the original Moto 360 now more than a year old but recent price cuts suggest that Motorola is clearing stock ahead of an announcement.

Update: Here is the video Motorola posted. We’ve got it on our YouTube channel as Motorola has pulled both the tweet and the video.
