Online Sony Store closing on August 28th

SonyWhile Sony’s latest financial results suggest that the electronics manufacturer is making progress in turning its beleaguered fortunes around, more restructuring still lies ahead. Having already closed most of its U.S. retail stores and all 14 Sony Store retail locations in Canada, Sony this week announced plans to close its online store both in both countries.

Sony announced its decision both in an email sent to its customers and online. “We are improving our online experience! Sony will have an exciting new product website that includes our authorized retailers for your purchase preference. The Sony Store online will stop taking orders at 1 p.m. PST on August 28, 2015,” reads the notice on its website.Online Sony Store closure

Sony also reminds everyone to use their gift cards before the online store closes. They won’t be much good to you after the 28th.

It’s not immediately clear what this new product retail website will look like but it will presumably continue to offer product information for Sony’s range of products. But instead of consumers buying directly from Sony, they will likely be redirected to the websites of retail partners when they’re ready to hit the ‘Buy now’ button.
