Round Samsung Orbis smartwatch said to launch as Samsung Gear A

Samsung smartwatch ring interfaceRumours have been floating since the start of the year that Samsung is working on a new smartwatch with a round display. This is no longer anything special in itself but Samsung is rumoured to be including a number of features that will be, including a rotating bezel ring and gesture controls. Known by its alleged codename Orbis so far, SamMobile now suggests that it will launch as the Samsung Gear A, “or at least that’s what the signs are pointing to at the moment.”

The report adds that the Samsung Gear A will launch in two variants. The first will come with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. The second model will include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, allowing it to make and receive calls wihtout being paired to a smartphone. The former is expected to carry model number SM-R720 and the latter SM-R730. A full list of model numbers gives us a glimpse at carriers that will potentially offer the Gear A:

Past rumours have suggested that the Samsung Gear A will be powered by an Exynos 7420 processor and Samsung’s own Tizen operating system. It is also expected to support wireless charging. It could also work as a keychain, necklace or armband thanks to additional accessories.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Samsung Gear A later this year. One rumour suggests it will do so at CTIA 2015 in September. It could also do so at IFA 2015 where Samsung has traditionally unveiled its Galaxy Note phablets.
