Samsung hires former Coca-Cola exec Pio Schunker to head global mobile marketing

Pio SchunkerSamsung earlier this month confirmed that Samsung Mobile Chief Marketing Officer Todd Pendleton was leaving the company. The company is moving quickly to fill not only the void left by the departure of the executive best known for the Samsung Next Big Thing campaign but also continue to rebuild its marketing team to turn its flagging fortunes around. It announced this week that it has hired Pio Schunker as the new Senior Vice President of Integrated Marketing Communications IT & Mobile Division.

Schunker, a 10 year Coca-Cola and who has also worked with American Express and Mercedes-Benz, will report Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Marketing at Samsung.

“Mr. Schunker’s deep experience will help further propel Samsung’s brand presence across our mobile product portfolio,” said Mrs. Lee. “His experience and expertise will bring a unique, fresh perspective to our team and strengthen our marketing initiatives around the world.”

Samsung is also reportedly in talks with Marc Mathieu, also a former Coca-Cola marketing executive and currently the senior vice president of global marketing at Unilever, to take over Pendleton’s position and focus on marketing in North America. His appointment has yet to be confirmed.
