Samsung Pay for Gear S2 delayed until 2016

Samsung Gear S2 and S2 ClassicSamsung had hoped to roll out its new Samsung Pay service to its NFC-equipped Gear S2 smartwatch this year. The mobile payment service launched in the U.S. back in October with support from all major U.S. carriers (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular and Verizon) but only supports a handful of smartphones so far. The company had been aiming to add Samsung Pay for Gear S2 support by November. In response to a customer inquiry via Twitter, Samsung Mobile a few days back confirmed that the service will not make it to its latest smartwatch until sometime in 2016.

Samsung did not provide any explanation for the delay. It also has yet to provide a more precise revised launch date than sometime next year.

The delay is likely to irk many Gear S2 owners who had expected that they would by now be able to make payments with the flick of their wrist. Samsung had touted the Samsung Pay for Gear S2 service as a key feature since unveiling the smartwatch in late August.

Samsung Pay is now available in both South Korea and the U.S. It requires a compatible smartphone such as the  Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+ or Galaxy Note 5.
