Apple Watch WATCHe skeleton mechanical watch face

WATCHe_ skeleton watch face for Apple WatchSome of the most interesting watches are skeleton watches. These let you see the inner workings of a watch through a dial cut-out or simply doing away with the dial face completely. Components are often stripped down to their basic skeleton elements, leaving us to see exactly how the watch operates. This experience has now made its way over to the Apple Watch courtesy of the WATCHe skeleton watch face, a digital version of the dial found on WATCHe’s own skeleton watches.

WATCHe released the new watch face to allow people to discover mechanical watches, see how the mechanism works and “penetrate the secrets of the heart of the mechanical skeleton watch.”

The watch face comes with the ability customize it by turning on and off various components. This feature can also help you identify them and see how they work with other components. It’s possible to activate or deactivate the various hands, center and other wheels, jumper screw and more. In all, 26 components can be controlled this way.

Unfortunately, Apple’s lack of support for third-party watch faces limits the usefulness of the WATCHe skeleton watch face. As it’s an app rather than a true watch face, you’ll need to switch back to it after bringing up another app.

If  you suddenly find yourself addicted to skeleton watches (you would not be the first), WATCHe offers a number of traditional watches. These include the We3S pictured above or the We5S pictured below which also acts as a case for your iPhone. The WATCHe We3S sells for CHF 3,634 (about US$3,585 or CA$75,120) while the We5S sells for CHF 5,110 (about US$5,050 or CA$7,200).
