New Veldt Serendipity models to be unveiled at Baselworld 2016

Veldt SerendipityVeldt, a Japanese wearable brand established in 2012, is headed to Baselworld 2016 to unveil new models of its Veldt Serendipity analog-type smartwatch. The new devices are the product of a partnership with Kyoto Denim, a fashion company that blends the art of Kyo-Yuzen (a dyeing method that dates back to the 8th century) with denim fabrics. The new models also promise some new features.

In all, four new models will be unveiled. The Night Blossom model will come with a watch band custom designed and dyed by hand with cherry blossoms. It will be available in both light and dark versions. The third, the Indigo Sky, will come with simple denim made watch band. A matte black sports model called Black Horse will also be offered. It will come with a matte black casing with red or orange accents and a rubber band.

Like earlier models, the new Veldt Serendipity smartwatches are designed “to reduce digital stress for people that were overwhelmed and felt a lot of time was being wasted by the excessive information on their smartphones.” They incorporate LED lights and a small digital display into the watch face. Together, they are can display a range of information synced from a paired smartphone. They also offer basic activity and sleep tracking capabilities. In Tokyo, Japan, they can also be used to call for a taxi.

The new models include the MIP (Most Important Person) function. It allows you to receive only notifications from up to five people you have selected. “More free time to look around but still feel connected to the important people and information in your life, that is what we have designed.”

Veldt Serendipity

The new watches will also be compatible with both Android and iOS devices. The Veldt Life Assist app not only provides activity and sleep summaries but can be used to assign specific functions to the watch’s two buttons.

The Veldt Serendipity Night Blossom will sell for US$1,500 (about CA$2,000). The Indigo model will be available for US$520 (about CA$700) and the Black Horse for US$960 (about CA$1,275).

Veldt will also be looking for new partners to bring its Serendipity smartwatches to markets outside of Japan.
