Pokémon GO Plus wearable and game to launch in July

Pokémon GONintendo announced the Pokémon GO mobile game last September. Developed in partnership with Niantic, the company behind Ingress, it will allow players to search an augmented reality version of the real world to catch, trade and battle various Pokémon. Nintendo will also offer a companion wearable, the Pokémon GO Plus, that will make it easier to perform certain game actions right from the wrist. Nintendo this week gave us the clearest indication of when the game and the wearable will launch.

Pokémon GO Plus

According to information revealed during a Treehouse livestream from this week’s E3, Pokémon GO will be released in July. The Pokémon GO Plus will go on sale at about the same time. It will sell for US$35 (about CA$45).

The augmented reality game will use your surroundings to help determine what kinds of Pokémon you will run across. For example, water-type Pokémon will be more likely to appear near water.  The game will also feature Training gyms where you will be able to train your Pokémon and Poke-Stops, locations where additional items such as eggs can be picked up. You will also be able to evolve your Pokémon using Evolution Shards.

Pokémon Go will be available for both Android and iOS. It will be free to play with in-app purchases available.
