Details emerge about upcoming Google smartwatch

Google logoDoes it seem like every device manufacturer is jumping on the smartwatch bandwagon? If they have not already unveiled at least one generation of wearable devices, they are planning to jump into this increasingly crowded market. Apple has long been rumoured to be readying its own smartwatch and more recent rumours have suggested that Google will also unveil its version later this year. More information emerged today courtesy of the usually reliable @evleaks.

LG is once again rumoured to be the manufacturer behind the Google smartwatch. In terms of specifications, it will likely sport a 1.65-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 280 by 280 pixels, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. The processor is still undetermined. @evleaks makes no mention of the operating system but it will likely be Android.

If these specifications are accurate, the Google smartwatch will have a lower resolution display than the new Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch but comparable RAM and internal storage.

There is no word on what features Google intends to support with its smartwatch but it will likely be compatible with a greater range of devices than Samsung’s Gear family of wearables.

It’s not clear from today’s tweet if the Google smartwatch will launch under the Nexus brand. Earlier rumours suggested that it would though.
