HTC holding August 19 press event, possibly for HTC One (M8) for Windows

August 19 2014 HTC event invitationHTC today sent out invitations to its next press event. It will take place on August 19 in New York City. The invitation does not reveal what HTC has in store for everyone but it could well be the HTC One (M8) for Windows that was the topic of rumours just yesterday.

Should the HTC One (M8) for Windows indeed be the main attraction of the event, we can expect to see a device that is very similar to the current HTC One (M8) with the key difference being that it will run Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 rather than Android KitKat. It is expected t come with both HTC Duo camera and front-facing BoomSound speakers as well as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, a 5-inch Full HD (1080×1920) display and 2GB of RAM.

With Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 adding support for smart cases, you can also expect to HTC to announce a compatible DotView case.

The HTC One (M8) for Windows is expected to be headed to Verizon Wireless. It could launch as early as August 21, selling for  about US$610 (CA$660) outright and US$199 with contract. It’s not clear at this point whether we will see it offered by other carriers or other countries.

HTC has been rumoured to get back into the Windows Phone game for some time now. Rumours last year suggested that it was readying a Windows Phone 8 version of the original HTC One but that device never materialized. Rumours then surfaced last October that Microsoft was actively wooing HTC back with an offer to eliminate license fees and other incentives.
