Microsoft to unveil new Lumia smartphones on September 4

Microsoft IFA 2014 eventMicrosoft today began to send out invitations to a press event set for September 4, a day before IFA 2014 kicks off. It is peppered with enough hints to effectively confirm that Microsoft will announce new Lumia smartphones at the event. First, the tagline “ready for more?” sports a PureView camera as the o in more. The invitation also asks to join Microsoft “for more face time.”

On tap for the event are likely the Lumia 730, its oft-rumoured selfie smartphone codenamed Superman, and the Lumia 830, codenamed Tesla, the latest to sport a PureView camera.

The Lumia 730 is expected to succeed the Lumia 720. It will improve upon it with a 5MP front-facing camera to deliver better quality selfies than we have been used to in the past. Other rumoured specifications include a 4.7-inch display and Windows Phone 8.1.

The Nokia Lumia 830 is expected to be a mid-range Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone that will likely succeed the Lumia 820. The aptly name 830 appears to sport an aluminium frame with a polycarbonate back. It will reportedly sport a 13MP PureView camera.

There is no word yet on whether Microsoft will livestream the event.
