Australian handheld growth to continue in 2005

On the ongoing saga of whether handheld sales are still growing or slumping, Australian sales figures for 2005 are expected to show ongoing growth. Traditional handhelds should grow by 10 percent while converged devices (telephony and data) are forecasted to grow by 55 percent from 2004, according to IDC.

In terms of 2004 marketshare, Symbian (primarily cell phones) held the lead with 44.2 percent of the market, followed by Microsoft with 36.1 and Palm in third with 10.6.
