Using a cell phone while driving will age you 50 years

I first saw this on UberGizmo. It’s only funny until you realize that these are the people you share the road with. New research has shown that talking on a cell phone while driving can reduce your attention and ability to react to that of a senior citizen!

The results showed that drivers who talked on cell phones, of any age, were 18% slower in hitting their brakes than drivers who didn’t use cell phones. The drivers chatting on cell phones also had a 12% greater following distance, which researchers say is an effort to compensate for paying less attention to road conditions, and took 17% longer to regain the speed they lost when they hit the brakes.

The study also showed that the effects of using a cellphone were not as pronounced in older drivers, perhaps due to the fact that they have more experience and are less likely to take risks.
