Access licenses Garnet OS to Palm

Palm

Palm, Inc. has licensed the Palm OS Garnet source code from ACCESS. The license will allow Palm to use either portions or the entire OS in any product (like future Treos and handhelds). Palm will also have the ability to modify the source code. Forward compatibility will be ensured by the use of a compatibility test harness between the two companies.

ACCESS and Palm have also agreed to an expansion of the two companies’ existing patent license. The new license is perpetual but non-exclusive and cost Palm $44 million USD.

Where this leaves Access’s ALP (ACCESS Linux Platform) operating system is not immediately clear.
