This is purely conjecture at this time but Peter Misek, an analyst with Canaccord Capital Inc., is predicting that we could see a partnership between Apple and Research In Motion sooner than later. The partnership could result in Apple developing a new device (eg, the rumoured iPhone) that would include RIM’s wireless technology or RIM could incorporate iTunes into a future BlackBerry. Or both.
While the idea has merit for both companies, it could face significant challenges given that both companies have tightly controlled the hardware on which their software runs and may not want to relinquish that control. Differences of opinions between the strong-willed personalities that lead both companies (Apple’s Steve Jobs and RIM’s two CEOs, Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis) could also sink any such endeavour.
