HP: Pen-based PDAs on their way out

HP is planning to shift its focus away from more traditional PDAs to increasingly converged devices, according to a CNET Australia interview with Chin-Teik See, Vice-President for Consumer Products and Mobile Business Group in the Asia-Pacific region (Now, that’s a title!). HP sees the pen-based market shrinking by 30 percent year-over-year and only a significant innovation will save it from marginalization.

Although HP will continue to offer PDAs, new devices will increasingly focus on entry level designs. Instead HP is looking to focus more on Smartphone and converged products such as the iPAQ rw6800 and the iPAQ hw6900 which support push-email capabilities.
