With HTC severing its ties with i-mate, the latter is having to find new partners. First there was Inventec for the new i-mate JAQ. Now comes word from a Hong Kong site that i-mate will also release the UBiQUiO 501 from TechFaith Wireless (TFW) as the JAQ3. The JAQ3 is a Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC Phone Edition device with a QWERTY keyboard and 2.5-inch QVGA touchscreen. It also comes with tri-band GSM/GPRS support (no 850MHz and no EDGE), 64MB internal memory, Bluetooth 1.2 with A2DP, 802.11 b and g Wi-Fi, a 2MP camera and a miniSD slot.
If and when i-mate announces the JAQ3, perhaps we will also find out if there will ever be a JAQ2.
