Toronto Wi-Fi goes live

Toronto Hydro has completed the first phase of the deployment of its Wi-Fi network for Toronto called One Zone. Phase 1 covers the downtown core, a six square kilometer area (bounded by Front St. and Bloor St.; Spadina Ave. and Church St. (north of Queen St.); and Bathurst St. and Parliament St. (south of Queen St.). A second phae extending coverage north to College street is expected to be completed in mid-October and the entire network should be completed by the end of the year.

Network access will be free until March 6, 2007. After that, access will be available by pre-paid monthly subscription ($29 CAD per month) a 24 consecutive hours package ($10 CAD per day) and an hourly subscription ($5 CAD per hour).
