Apple to deliver new Apple TV and iPhone features for free

During its second quarter 2007 earnings announcement, Apple also announced that it had instituted a new accounting policy that would allow it to offer future software features and updates for the Apple TV and upcoming iPhone for free. At least part of the reason for this change is to avoid the customer backlash that Apple faced a few months ago when it announced that it would charge $1.99 USD to let customers unlock the 802.11 n Wi-Fi protocol on their MacBooks.

Meanwhile, Apple continues to fire on all cylinders, announcing that it shipped over 1.5 million Macintosh computers and over 10.5 million iPods last quarter, showing growths of 36 and 24 percent respectively over the same quarter last year.
