Fujitsu announces SSD-based Tablet PCs

The solid state drive (SSD) bandwagon rolls on. Fujitsu has announced two Tablet PCs that will use the Flash-based drives instead of traditional hard drives. Both the LifeBook P1610 and LifeBook B6210 are now available with either a 16 or 32GB SSD. The P1610 is a smaller unit weighing 2.2 pounds while the B6210 comes in at about 3.2 pounds.

Flash drives have many benefits over traditional hard drives in that they are faster, use less power and are comparatively lighter. But, despite rapidly falling prices, they remain much more expensive. Traditional hard drives also offer significantly more storage than the largest SSD.

Fujitsu did not reveal the pricing for either model.
