For the first time ever, a track exclusive to iTunes has cracked the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Carrie Underwood’s cover of The Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand by You” was downloaded more than 100,000 times in less than a week to achieve this milestone. The song was performed last week on American Idol during a charity episode.
While an impressive achievement, I think you can attribute most if not all the credit to the media power of the American Idol television show.
